なぜ、グルテンフリー?――カラダがよろこぶ新しい選択

Why gluten-free? --A new choice for your body

Wheat products such as bread, pasta, and cake are essential for our daily diet. But have you recently been experiencing problems like feeling bloated, feeling sleepy after meals, or having a dull skin scent?

Maybe it has something to do with gluten.

What is gluten?

Gluten is a type of protein found in wheat, barley, rye, etc. It is the source of that chewy texture in bread and noodles, and is the basis of that "attention to detail."

It's convenient and delicious, but it can actually be a bit of a burden for modern people.

A minor ailment noticed by gluten

Recent research has shown that gluten can affect the intestinal environment and immune balance.

If you are particularly concerned about the following symptoms, you may be more likely to experience changes when going gluten-free:

Feeling bloated after eating

Intestinal disorders such as constipation and diarrhea

・Rough skin and dullness

・Slightly persistent fatigue

・Decreased concentration

❗Is it still considered bad for the intestines?

1. It is a difficult protein to digest

Gluten is very resistant to breakdown, so it can reach the intestines without being completely broken down in the digestive tract. The unbroken protein can irritate the intestinal wall, causing chronic inflammation.

2. Possibility of destroying the intestinal "mucosal barrier"

Gluten causes the secretion of a substance called "zonulin" in the intestines. Zonulin loosens the "tight junctions" that connect the cells in the intestinal wall, causing intestinal permeability (leaky gut) to increase.

As a result, toxins and undigested proteins can enter the body, potentially leading to immune abnormalities, chronic inflammation, and autoimmune diseases .

3. Causes of celiac disease

Gluten is the main cause of celiac disease ,an autoimmune disorder. This is a serious condition that destroys the villi in the small intestine, making it difficult to absorb nutrients. While rare in Japan, approximately 1% of people in the western part of the country suffer from this condition.

4. Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS)

Some people who do not have celiac disease or allergies experience symptoms such as intestinal upset (diarrhea, bloating, abdominal pain), headaches, and fatigue when they ingest gluten. This is called non-celiac gluten sensitivity, and it has been suggested that the intestinal environment and nervous system may be at fault.
